VEX Tournament:

What is VEX?
The VEX Robotics Design System gives young students the necessary tools for learning about career opportunities in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields. These are just a few of the many opportunities students explore with VEX Robotics technology. Going beyond science and engineering principles, a VEX Robotics project encourages teamwork, leadership, and problem solving. It also allows easy customization of projects, design, and capabilities to meet students' abilities. The affordable VEX platform is expanding rapidly and is now found in middle schools, high schools, and university labs around the globe due to the diversity of the program.

Team Fusion and VEX
Team Fusion has implemented a VEX program incorporating elementary and middle schools. Fusion members split into teams that mentor these individual schools, preparing them for the Team Fusion-hosted VEX tournament, which took place at Bayou View Middle School on November 14, 2009.

Since 2007, the number of VEX teams has risen from 16 to 30, and from 8 schools to 14. On average, one adult mentor and five students go for a period of 6-7 weeks to help mentor these teams before competition. The tournament was previously held in the Gulfport High School auditorium, but was moved to the Bayou View Middle School gym due to growth in teams and number of kids.

The VEX Competition is completely student-lead, from the MC to the live-video feed crew, from the referees to the score keepers, everything about Team Fusion’s VEX Tournament is in the hands of our students. Even the game design and rules are formulated by Team Fusion team members. This year’s game was called "Blitz Bots," in which the rules were formulated around the concepts of football.
